What's the difference between a credit card and a debit card?

While both cards can be used for purchases, they work very differently:

Credit Card:

  • Borrows money from the card issuer
  • Builds credit history
  • Charges interest if balance isn't paid in full
  • Often offers rewards and protections
  • Can lead to debt if mismanaged

Debit Card:

  • Uses money directly from your bank account
  • No credit building
  • No interest charges
  • Limited rewards
  • Less fraud protection than credit cards
